TO FUTURE MINORITY SCIENTISTS; A PROTOCOL FOR FINDING A CURE
OR IMPROVED TREATMENTS OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE.

I'm sure that there are budding scientists who read this webpage. With
that in mind, here's a research proposal that could lead to cures, or
improved treatments of a condition that disproportionately affects Black
people; High blood pressure.

Consider the following: The pressure experienced by various life forms
living within the depths of the oceans is staggering. There has to be
some unique mechanism by which their bodies compensate for the added
pressure to their body systems. The isolation of enzymes within the blood
vessels of deep-sea creatures could lead to promising treatments for
high blood pressure.

Anyone who's taken an entry level Biochemistry or Physiology course
should do rigorous, independent reading and studying of the cardiovascular
system. What factors (which are many) lead to high blood pressure in
humans? How do our bodies attempt to re-establish "normal" systemic
pressure? How would a deep sea creature fare in an environment of low
pressure? Which enzymes would decrease in production?

This is the scientific process in action. It always begins with
creative thought, followed by experiments. With hard work, dedication, and the
"X" factor (luck), you could join the likes of Benjamin Banneker, and
other great Black scientists with a cure or improvised treatment for
high blood pressure.
